J. Spencer and Patricia Standish Library

The J. Spencer and Patricia Standish Library provides educational services, materials, and information to support the teaching, learning, and research needs of the students and faculty at Siena College. The library collection provides access to over 1.2 million items, including books, journals, electronic collections, DVDs, images, sound recordings, fine art, archives, and special collections.

The Standish Library Website  provides a convenient access point to the collection, as well as information on services and study space. Remote, 24/7, access to the e-resources is available from the web site.

Library faculty and staff are available, both in person and online, to assist students and faculty in their course assignments and research. Library services include instruction on using library resources, information literacy, and research skills, as well as interlibrary loan, course reserves, and media services. Through local and national resource sharing networks and agreements, Siena students and faculty have access to the holdings of many libraries in New York State and throughout the United States.

The J. Spencer and Patricia Standish Library offers attractive and inviting spaces for individual study and collaborative learning. Students may reserve study rooms through the library website. Print, audiovisual and electronic resources are located in close proximity. Media and Digital Services provide traditional and electronic access to audiovisual resources. The Standish Library also supports an archive, a Special Collection, and a fine art collection

During the academic year the Library is usually open Monday - Thursday 7:30 am to 12:00 am; Friday 7:30 am to 8:00 pm; Saturday 10 am to 6:00 pm; and Sunday 12 pm to 12:00 am.  Hours may change so please check the library website for verification of schedule.

Guest Use Policy

The Standish Library welcomes guests to use library collections and services when consistent with library priorities. Services to guests of the Standish Library may include use of library computers, access to research materials for in-house use, and reference assistance. Reference Librarians and Circulation Staff may grant access to guest computers. All guests who wish to use library computers are required to comply with the Siena College Acceptable Use Policy, and sign the Guest Computer Access Sign-In Sheet each time a computer is assigned. Guest services do not include printing.

As stated in our mission statement, "The central role of the library is to enhance the educational process by providing resources and instructional services in support of the curricular and research needs of students and faculty.” Serving the Siena student population is the library’s first priority. Guests may not use library computers if library personnel determines that they are needed for Siena students, faculty, and staff. 

Direct Access Program (DAP)

If you have a current library card at any of these local libraries, you may qualify for a DAP (Direct Access Program) card, which you can then use to check out materials from many public, academic, and special libraries in the greater capital region, including Siena College. To obtain a DAP card, please contact your local library and inquire. Once your library provides you with a DAP card, you may then use it to check out Siena materials.

Alumni Borrowing & Library Use

Alumni Use & Borrowing  - Siena Alumni are eligible to borrow books from the circulating collection for a loan period of 28 days with one renewal option available by phone or in-person. One additional in-person renewal is permitted.  Due to licensing restrictions Siena Alumni do not have remote access to library resources however they can request guest access to library computers while visiting the library. 

Gifts/Donation Policy

Gift/Donation Policy - The Library welcomes gifts and donations with the understanding that all gifts become the property of Standish Library, and they are evaluated using the same criteria as any addition to the collection.
