Fleet Special Collections Center

Visit the Fleet Room

History is on clear display in the Fleet Special Collections Center at Standish Library. Behind the glass doors on the Friar’s Rotunda awaits a treasury of materials curated to support the curriculum and programs of Siena College. From rare tomes and medieval manuscripts to notable photographs, maps and scrapbooks, the items housed here span centuries and are appreciated by serious researchers and casual learners alike for their historic value, visual interest and distinct meaning to the College. Even the old-world design of the Fleet Room reflects the high regard for the keepsakes within. The Collection is special for a reason: it serves as a testament to Siena’s dedication to preserving the past and respecting our Franciscan tradition.

Appointments Welcome

All are welcome to explore and experience the select materials in the Fleet Room.

  • Materials are available for use by appointment only, Monday through Friday during Library hours.
  • Current Siena students and faculty may utilize the collection by presenting their Saint Cards. Other researchers will need a letter of introduction or official identification to be granted access.
  • The Fleet Special Collections Center is also open at times throughout the year for Library events, such as the fall Open House. On those occasions, the Special Collections Librarian will be on hand to offer tours and answer questions.
