Siena College is one of 120 institutions that participates in a central license agreement negotiated by Lyrasis, a non-profit member organization of which Siena is a member.
This agreement provides us access to a vast amount of Springer Nature content as well as the opportunity for Siena authors to publish fee-free in selected journals.
Corresponding authors can publish fee-free Open Access (OA) articles in any of the eligible hybrid or fully OA Springer Nature journals included in our agreement during the length of the current license agreement; 2024-2027.
Not all Springer Nature journals are available for fee-free OA publishing in this agreement, only journals included in our agreement are eligible.
Types of articles that can be published under this agreement:
Important to note: there is a cap on the number of articles alloted to the entire group of schools each year. Once that cap is reached, the fee-free OA publishing is not available until the next calendar year. The 2024 starting number of alloted articles (1267) was based on past publishing numbers from the group of schools. The number of available articles goes up incrementally each subsequent year.
Articles are published using the CC-BY license. Author retains copyright.
When you are ready to submit your article, go to the journal's home page and use the Submit Your Manuscript button. You will then need to login to their system. Once your article is accepted the corresponding author will receive an email asking them to complete the publishing process in their publishing rights system.
Once in the system, follow the prompts. There are three ways your article can be deemed eligible.
Once you submit this information, Standish Library will be notified and we will then confirm eligibility. You will be notified by email after this is completed.
From Springer Nature's website:
The corresponding author is defined as the person who handles the manuscript and correspondence during the publication process – from manuscript correction and proof reading, to handling the revisions and re-submission of revised manuscripts up to the acceptance of the manuscripts.
The corresponding author has the authority to act on behalf of all co-authors in all matters pertaining to publication of the manuscript including supplementary material. They are also responsible for obtaining such agreements and for informing the co-authors of the manuscript’s status throughout the submission, review and publication process.
In addition, the corresponding author acts as the point of contact for any enquiries after the paper is published.
