Participating Institutions

Siena joins good company with this agreement. Check out other participating institutions. Reminder that Siena has the five journal package.

Steps for Authors

From the CoB's Guide for Corresponding Authors (red text provides Siena comments):

Step 1: Check if the corresponding author’s institution has a Read & Publish or other transformative Open Access agreement with The Company of Biologists

  • Siena College has an agreement, you are all set.

Step 2: Check which journal package your institution has signed up to

  • Siena College is signed up for the five journal package.

Step 3: Submit your article using our Bench>Press submission system

  • Visit their Guide page to select the link for the journal you are submitting to. You will then need to login or create an account for the Bench>Press system.
  • The affiliation of the corresponding author is used to determine eligibility for discounted or waived article processing charges so please ensure that the corresponding author is agreed before submission.
  • When providing your contact details, please include your institutional email address, as well as the full name and address of your institution, including country.
  • If you are submitting an article to Development, Journal of Cell Science or Journal of Experimental Biology, please follow the on-screen instructions and be sure to select “Gold Open Access” and “Read & Publish fee waiver”. (Please note: This step is not required for Disease Models & Mechanisms and Biology Open.)

Step 4: What you need to do if your article is accepted

  • Congratulations from Standish Library!
  • Please visit the CoB Guide for CAs (link above) for complete instructions.
  • Important note: Siena has elected a Touch-free workflow.

Step 5: Promote and share your article

  • Share your Open Access article widely--and again, congrats!

What is role of a corresponding author (CA) at CoB?

From the CoB website...

"taking primary responsibility for communication with the journal (through submission, peer review, revisions, proofs etc), ensuring that all co-authors agree to the contents of the manuscript (and any revisions) and that all matters comply with the policies of the journal, as well as signing the Publication Agreement and arranging payment of an article processing charge, where required."

Also...

"be available for any post-publication queries..." and..."ensure that all co-authors have agreed authorship and contributorship (using the CRediT taxonomy) before submission."

Finally,

"Important note for Open Access publication: The CA should check their funder mandates carefully to ensure they select the appropriate OA publishing route. If a CC-BY license is required, please select Gold OA."
