Peer Tutoring in Writing (WRIT--2490)
The purpose of this Siena College course is to teach students how to tutor others in writing. The major emphasis of the course is on writing: analyzing your own writing processes while learning to talk to others about theirs. This course is requireed for anyone who wants to be a Writing center tutor.
The International Writing Centers Association, a National Council of Teachers of English affiliate founded in 1983, fosters the development of writing center directors, tutors, and staff by sponsoring meetings, publications, and other professional activities; by encouraging scholarship connected to writing center-related fields; and by providing an international forum for writing center concerns. (Mission Statement)
“The Council promotes the development of literacy, the use of language to construct personal and public worlds and to achieve full participation in society, through the learning and teaching of English and the related arts and sciences of language.” (NCTE Mission Statement)
The MLA Style Center supplements, and in some cases enhances, information found in the MLA Handbook. Topics include how to format a research paper, works-cited lists, and in-text citations. "Ask MLA," is a list of frequently asked questions, some of which are not easily answered using the manual.
