Current best practices in source evaluation emphasize efficient strategies such as lateral reading over traditional checklist approaches (such as the CRAAP test). Rather than focusing deeply on the content of a single source when encountering information, lateral reading encourages students to quickly investigate the reputation of the author or publisher, or verify a claim by opening a new tab and consulting additional sources. The videos in the section below provide a detailed overview of the lateral reading process. Also included below are lesson plans, handouts, and additional resources related to lateral reading as source evaluation.
