LO3: Iterative Research Process

Lesson Plans and Handouts for Research Iteratively

Research is an exploratory process that requires persistence and creativity. These lesson plans and handouts are designed to help students engage in iterative research, where questions evolve and sources shape thinking. Materials emphasize flexible thinking, strategic searching and organization, supporting students as they develop deeper, more resilient research habits. That said, much of this learning outcome will be accomplished through scaffolded assignment design in the classroom.

Activites: Advanced Library Searching
Adaptable lesson ideas for teaching advanced search techniques. Activities take varying lengths of time.
Activity: Identify the Naysayer Exquisite Corpse
This is a 30 minute activity that can be used to have students articulate their topic and a possible naysayer. Useful when students have already done significant research in a second-semester class.
Slides: Library Bingo
Activity that can be used in the second semester as a hands-on refresher for using Saint Search. Divide students into small groups and have them compete to fill out the bingo cards using sticky notes on the board. Debrief.
